Before you display a third-party sustainability label
Last review: 1 October 2026.
Retailers, brands and marketplaces often reuse a holder's sustainability label on packaging, shelves or product pages. This checklist describes what you can verify on Label Registry today before you show a third-party label to consumers. It is not legal advice and Glint does not certify any label.

Step 1: read the published scheme and criteria answers
Open the public scheme page for the label, for example Vallée Verte on Label Registry.
On that page you can read the frozen scheme version and, when published, the scheme owner's self-check answers compared to the German certification scheme criteria text (fact DE2). The public JSON at `/api/public/v1/schemes/vallee-verte` includes a `schemeCriteria` block with the same criteria references.
Glint publishes Label Registry. Answers describe what the owner recorded; they are not a statement that the label meets national law.
Step 2: verify the certificate
Search the public registry or open the certificate page by number, for example ECOV-2026-000001.
You can also scan the QR code on a printed certificate card. The verification URL shows the same data as the numbered page.
Check holder name, validity dates, status history and linked scheme before you reuse the label artwork.
Step 3: read covered claims and national notes
On the certificate page, read active covered claims, target markets and evidence the scheme owner chose to publish.
For Germany and Austria, Label Registry also shows transposition status and national notes where we have verified an official source (facts DE2, DE3, AT1, AT3). Other EU markets stay not verified until we publish a reviewed source.
Use the EmpCo transposition tracker for a full EU 27 table and JSON export.
Step 4: consumer-facing scope (B2C)
When the claim or certificate is marked for consumers (B2C), remember that Germany (fact DE3) and Austria (fact AT3) blacklist certain sustainability labels in business-to-consumer situations when the label is not based on a certification scheme or not set by public authorities. Confirm how this applies to your channel with your adviser.
